Our Story

Partners in life and in work, Parul and Falgun Sheth, founded Shaishav in 1994. Their goal was to to fight child labor by improving access to education. Although in theory there is universal education, the reality is that many children, particularly in marginalized communities, do not attend school, or only attend part time. Many must leave school so they can help financially support their families. However, lack of education has enormously detrimental effects on the children, their families, and ultimately, society as a whole.

Healthy, educated children turn into healthy, informed adults, who create and shape the society in which they live. This is why, for the past 20 years, the Sheths and the passionate Shaishave team of volunteers, staff, and community members have worked tirelessly to ensure that all children, particularly the underprivileged, experience all the basic rights and joys of childhood equally; allowing all children to become productive, socially sensitive, and democratically skilled citizens. With their child-centered philosophy, years of hard work, sacrifice, and outpouring of love,  Shaishav has pioneered the child rights movement in Gujarat, growing into one of the largest participatory child – rights organizations in India.
